Here's a couple of old school tricks my great uncle told me about with engines you may not know about.
1. Got a motor that's dry siezed from sitting? Take out the plugs and dump in 1/2 a cup of diesel. Put plugs back in and let sit for a day or two. Remove plugs and slowly try to turn it over by hand. If it turns, give it a couple revolutions and let it sit overnight, then turn it again. repeat until it gets too easy. Put your plugs back in, dump some gas in the carb and try to flash it. If it starts, you're golden. Wait for the smoke to clear from the leftover diesel and 9 times out of 10 you won't have damaged any internals.
2. Engines all carboned up? Steam clean it! Fire it up, and with the aircleaner removed, kick the rev's up to about 4 grand and slowly pour a small amount of water in the carb. It'll try to stall like if you put carb cleaner in, but if you keep the rev's up, it'll keep running. Do this four or five times or until you feel you've cleaned er out.
I've personally tried both of these and they do work pretty well. Keep these in mind if you're looking to buy a vehicle that has sat for a long time and either won't turn over or just pukes black smoke. Now you can safely get the seller to knock a few hundred of of the asking price and know it could be a cheap fix! ;D

I do the water trick twice a year to the ram. Once in the spring, and the again in the fall. That is usually When I dump a tranny pan's worth of fluid out and do a band adjustment as well.
Good tip
